Javier Manquillo is back in training ahead of Newcastle United’s trip to Brentford on Saturday afternoon.

The Spanish full-back missed the 1-1 draw at West Ham United, where Joe Willock equalised for the Magpies, last weekend with an ankle problem.

It was initially feared Manquillo had suffered ligament damage during the win over Aston Villa six days prior, however the injury was not as bad as first feared.

And in the latest round of training pictures released by Newcastle, the 27-year-old was spotted as Eddie Howe’s side prepare to face Brentford.

With Kieran Trippier expected to be ruled out for the next eight to 10 weeks, Manquillo is set to rival Emil Krafth for the right-back spot.

No sign of Allan Saint-Maximin

However, there was no sign of star winger Allan Saint-Maximin, who also missed the visit to the London Stadium with a calf injury.

Speaking after the game versus the Hammers, Howe revealed: “He got a kick on his calf against villa – I think you saw him limping towards the end of the game.

“He didn’t train this week. We hoped he’d been fit, but, obviously, he didn’t make the game.

“Hopefully nothing too serious, but it was enough to keep him out.”

The Frenchman, as captured on his Instagram account this week, has been doing a range of upper and lower body exercises on his own.

The updates by Saint-Maximin had sparked hope he could return against the Bees this Saturday but as of Wednesday, the 24-year-old is yet to train with his teammates.
