Newcastle United may have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Kieran Tierney as he could be set to move on from Arsenal this summer. The left-back will make a final decision on his future as the countdown to the transfer window ticks on.

According to Football Insider, the Gunners are ‘happy to sell’ Tierney, and Eddie Howe is pushing to make him a part of the already impressive Newcastle squad after their sensational 2022/23 season. The Toon have finally made it back to hosting Champions League football at St James’ Park and the focus will now be on continuing their strong run of performances.

Arsenal signed Tierney from Celtic back in 2019 for £25 million. His current Transfermarkt value is not far off at £21.6 million and his current contract runs until 2026, so a similar fee could be asked of the Magpies if they make a move for him.

The 25-year-old made 36 appearances for the Gunners this season, including 27 in the Premier League as they narrowly missed out on winning their first title since the Invincibles in 2003.

However, Tierney made mainly cameo appearances throughout the season and was limited to just two starts in the league. New signing Oleksandr Zinchenko was more often than not the main choice at left-back for Mikel Arteta when he wasn’t out injured.

Tierney will certainly be looking to secure more regular time on the pitch and Newcastle are keen to build on their left-back options, as Dan Burn is currently first choice despite joining as a centre-half last season from Brighton. Howe is also reportedly looking to recruit a new attacking midfielder this summer.

The Magpies rounded off their season with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea, extending their unbeaten streak to five games and rounding their tally off with 71 points for the campaign.
