Watford manager Rob Edwards has believes Newcastle United transfer target Joao Pedro is ‘fully committed and fully focused’ to the Hornets.

The Magpies search to add more depth to their attacking ranks has seen them linked with moves for the likes of Chelsea striker Armando Broja and Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos throughout the summer.

But Brazilian youngster Pedro is said to be the latest player on their radar after a £20million bid was rejected by the Championship club earlier this week.

Reports suggest the Magpies will return with an improved offer over the coming days, with Watford said to be looking for a fee closer to the £35million mark for their prize asset.

Despite speculation over his future, Pedro has appeared in all four of the Hornets’ Championship fixtures so far this season and the speculation over a move to Tyneside is now impacting on his performances, according to his manager.

“With him you wouldn’t know anything was going on at all,” said Edwards in the aftermath of Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham City.

“He’s fully focused on his job and fully focused on playing for this football club and I think everyone could see that tonight. There’s probably one or two little bits I’d expect him to do slightly better at the top of the end of the pitch but I thought his commitment and some of the stuff that he did was first class.

“You could see him running all night long.

“Joao is fully committed and fully focused on the here and now, obviously he can’t control anything that’s happening externally but he’s dealing with everything very well.”

Edwards was pushed on whether he felt Pedro should remain at Vicarage Road to continue his development in the early stages of his career.

“Joao Pedro is already a very good player, he’s going to be an excellent footballer,” said the Hornets boss.

“I do believe this is the right place for him at the moment. I think he would really benefit from playing a full season with us and obviously helping the football club back to where we want to be.

“I think he can be a huge part in that and I think Joao is fully committed to that as well. He’s so mature for his young age and he understands what he needs to do as well.”
