Eddie Howe has reacted to Brazil’s decision to leave Newcastle United star Joelinton out of their Qatar World Cup squad. As expected, Bruno Guimaraes was called-up but there is disappointment for Joelinton after a transformative 12 months on Tyneside.
Brazil manager Tite visited St James’ Park last month when Joelinton was on the scoresheet in a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa. After being named last season’s Player of the Season, the 26-year-old has picked up where he left off this campaign but continues to be overlooked by Selecao.

“There’s always an element of disappointment for anyone that misses out,” Howe said. “I think Joe has been incredible for me since I joined the football club. Every single day he’s very consistent in his work and has produced some brilliant performances. It wasn’t to be for him.”
Guimaraes, meanwhile, celebrated with his family after his call-up. The 24-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading midfielders since joining from Lyon for £35million in January.

Howe added: “For Bruno, a very proud moment for him and his family. Delighted for him on a personal level.”
