Toon step up Henderson chase

Newcastle United want to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson this summer, and have now increased their interest in the Old Trafford stopper ahead of the transfer window opening.

According to a report from the print edition of the Sunday Mirror, the Magpies have stepped up their pursuit of the 25-year-old, and are hopeful of striking a deal that would take him to the north east in the coming months.

Toon boss Eddie Howe is understood to be keen on signing a new goalkeeper as an upgrade for current number one Martin Dubravka, and sees Henderson as the ideal replacement for the Slovakian international.

Any agreement for Henderson would not come cheap, however, with the Daily Star reporting that the Red Devils are seeking a fee of around £40 million.

Toon hold Calvert-Lewin talks

Newcastle United are said to have held “preliminary talks” with Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to a report from Football Insider.

The England international is said to be facing an uncertain future at Goodison Park ahead of the summer transfer window, and as such, the Magpies have taken an increased interest in his situation on Merseyside.

Luring him to Tyneside could be complicated by rival attention from Arsenal, however.

The Gunners have been persistently linked with Calvert-Lewin for some time, and it is understood that that player himself would prefer a move to north London.

Bruce plots Darlow reunion

West Brom boss Steve Bruce is set to raid former club Newcastle United in order to bring Karl Darlow to The Hawthorns, according to The Sun.

The Baggies are facing the prospect of losing England international Sam Johnstone this summer, and could be left in urgent need of a new number one in the coming months.

For their part, the Toon Army are in the market for a new goalkeeper, and could look to loan out Darlow if they do secure a fresh acquisition between the sticks.

In that eventuality, Bruce is understood to be keen on taking the 31-year-old to the Midlands.
