With the new Premier League season fast approaching, Newcastle United are still in the market to recruit a number of new faces.

The Magpies have been active this summer, but will feel that their business is far from done at this stage.

With that in mind, here’s Friday’s Toon-related transfer news...

Toon eye Giovani

Newcastle United are said to be one of three clubs monitoring Palmeiras prospect Giovani.

The promising Brazilian is garnering widespread attention in his home country, and ESPN report that he has already been the subject of a £10 million bid from Ajax.

Palmeiras rejected that offer, but the Dutch giants remain interested.

Newcastle are understood to be willing to compete with them for the 18-year-old’s signature, however, as are Bayer Leverkusen.

Any side hoping to land the starlet may have to dig deep though, with ESPN reporting that he has a £50 million release clause written into his contract.

Ekitike opens up on failed Magpies move

Hugo Ekitike has admitted that he was keen on joining Newcastle, but has suggested that the opportunity to sign for Paris Saint-Germain was too good to turn down.

The French striker was heavily linked with the Toon Army for some time before eventually joining PSG from Stade de Reims on an initial loan deal.

Speaking to Le Parisien about his transfer saga, Ekitike said: “I had an appointment with Luis (Campos, PSG’s football advisor) which meant a lot to me. It was not so long ago. We talked a lot, he is someone I value a lot. I wanted to come to PSG before this exchange, but he convinced me even more.

“I’m not setting aside everything Newcastle did for me to come. If I had to go abroad, I would have gone there. But when PSG wants you and you’re French, you can’t refuse.”

Sarr price set

Newcastle may have to pay as much as £29.4 million if they are to sign Ismaila Sarr from Watford this summer, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

The Toon Army, alongside West Ham, have been touted as potential suitors for the Senegalese winger, who is expected to leave the Hornets following their relegation from the Premier League last term.

As such, Watford have placed a hefty price tag on the 24-year-old, although it is suggested that their stance, and thus their valuation, could soften as the window progresses.
