Newcastle United are said to be favourites to snap up a current Arsenal star this summer.

The Magpies are in need of a left-back this summer having already strengthened on the other side with the signing of Kieran Trippier last year. Trippier has been excellent at right-back, offering defensive solidarity and an impressive attacking output. But Eddie Howe hasn’t been able to get the same level of output on the left side.

Dan Burn has often filled in, but he has often struggled to keep up with pacey players, and he is certainly not the type of full-back who is going to cause problems going forward.

With that in mind, it’s clear Newcastle will strengthen on the left this summer, and it seems they may have settled on a prime target. According to Football Insider, Arsenal star Kieran Tierney is the man the Magpies will turn to this summer. Tierney impressed in his early days with the Gunners after a superp spell with Celtic, but injuries did hold him back.

This season, he has stayed fit, but he has struggled for starts following the signing of Oleksandar Zinchenko. Specifically, Tierney has made 34 appearances across all competitions, but he has started just six of his Premier League appearances so far this season.

As a result, the 25-year-old could be made available this summer, and Football Insider say Newcastle are leading the race to snap him up. What will be interesting to see is whether Arsenal place a premium on the deal, given Newcastle are on course to be top four rivals for the Gunners over the coming years.

Still, Newcastle do have the money to pull off a deal this summer, and Tierney could make them an even more dangerous prospect, with Howe then able to play with two attacking full-backs.
