Newcastle United are without Jacob Murphy for tonight’s Premier League clash against Brighton and Hove Albion (kick-off 7:30pm).

The Magpies’ winger dropped out of the starting XI for Saturday afternoon’s 2-2 draw at Leeds United because of a sore groin.

Murphy was named in the matchday squad at Elland Road but wasn’t fit enough to be introduced from the bench. He misses out completely tonight.

Meanwhile, Sean Longstaff’s absence stretches into a fourth match as he continues his recovery from the foot injury he sustained in the 4-1 win Everton on April 27.

Speaking on Wednesday, head coach Eddie Howe said: “We’re clear on the injury, it’s just how long it takes to heal.

“He made good progress yesterday so let’s see how he feels today. He won’t be involved in this game.”

It is hoped both players will return for Monday’s game against Leicester City.

Newcastle are also without Jamaal Lascelles (calf), Emil Krafth (ACL) and Matt Ritchie (knee), who won’t play again in 2022-23.
