Newcastle United injury blow with key man set to miss Liverpool, West Ham, Everton & Aston Villa games

Newcastle United are set to be without Jonjo Shelvey for the next three months after learning the full extent of his hamstring injury.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the 30-year-old underwent surgery in London over the weekend and is likely to miss the first half of the season.

Shelvey, who picked up the issue during a pre-season friendly with Benfica, is forecasted to spend up to 12 weeks on the sidelines, meaning he won’t return unitl after the World Cup in Qatar.

The 2022-23 Premier League campaign pauses on November 12 and does not resume until Boxing Day.

Whilst the World Cup is on, it is hoped Shelvey can use the break to regain his fitness and return for Eddie Howe’s side in December.

It is a big blow for Newcastle and Shelvey himself, who looked sharp in pre-season after doing lots of work in the off-season. The midfielder is only three games away from activating a one-year contract extension.
