Newcastle United injury list & return dates after double season-ending injury blows
Newcastle United head into the final four games of the campaign hoping to seal Champions League qualification.
To do that, the Magpies must finish inside the top five and as it stands, they currently sit third in the table following Saturday’s 3-0 win over Ipswich Town at St James’ Park. However, the race remains extremely tight, with only two points separating third and sixth.

Ahead of the run-in, NewcastleWorld takes a look at Newcastle’s injury list and what each player could return:
Joelinton
Joelinton missed the whole of February with a knee injury and although he returned to action a month later, the Brazilian has continued to manage the issue.
However, the 28-year-old was forced to miss Saturday’s 3-0 win over Ipswich Town after being sent to see a specialist and according to Mail Online, he is set to miss the rest of the campaign.

Hide AdSpeaking after the Ipswich, Howe said: “He’s going to see a specialist, I'm sure he'll be scanned there as well. But he trained yesterday but just felt his knee wasn't 100% right. And that's the knee that he had an injury with earlier in the season.
“He's done brilliantly to play through the number of games that he has without being 100% fit. But he got to the point where he felt he needed a slight intervention. Let's keep our fingers crossed it's not serious.”
Estimated return date
2025-26 season.
Matt Targett
Matt Targett will likely miss the rest of the campaign with a hamstring injury, according to Howe.
Targett made only his fifth appearance of the season after coming on as a substitute in the recent 4-1 defeat at Aston Villa.

Anthony Gordon
Anthony Gordon hasn’t started a game for Newcastle since he was shown a straight red card during the FA Cup fifth round defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion eight weeks ago. He was given a three-match suspension but ended up missing an additional game after he sustained an injury on international duty in England.
What’s Eddie Howe said?
Howe said: “Anthony, I don't think is still 100% match fit. This week in training, he's still aware of some feeling in his knee so we need to protect him and make sure that when we bring him back into the team that he's 100% fit.”

Hide AdJamaal Lascelles
It’s now over a year since Jamaal Lascelles featured for Newcastle because of an ACL injury. He is back in light training but there are doubts over whether he’ll play for the end of the campaign.
What’s Eddie Howe said?
“I don't know whether we'll see Jamaal before the end of the season,” Howe said on Tuesday. I don't really want to set a target on his time to return. I think he has started very light training with the squad, but that would be light, not necessarily in competitive drills, but on the drills that are non-competitive he has joined in and he's looked really good. Small steps for him.
“We're hoping that he can definitely be joining in and competing in training before the end of the season. Whether that ties in with the team or whether he gets there in time, let's wait and see for competitive action. But he's a big player.”

Lewis Hall
Lewis Hall will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season after undergoing surgery on his foot.

"Also the international experience coming up, and he was just in really good form as well and playing very well, so yeah, that's a big blow for him and for us. The most important thing now is his recovery and making sure he comes back as good as he can."
