Newcastle United issue Alexander Isak and Joe Willock ahead of Arsenal - full injury list & return dates

Newcastle United issue Alexander Isak and Joe Willock update ahead of the Premier League trip to Arsenal.

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe hopes to welcome back both Alexander Isak and Joe Willock for Saturday evening's Premier League clash away to Arsenal (kick-off 8pm).

Isak has missed the last three matches with a recurring groin issue, while Willock hasn't featured since November after sustaining a second Achilles injury. But the pair have trained this week and are set to be included in the squad - if they get through Friday's training session.

“They've trained this week, it’s been good to see them back on the grass, " Howe told reporters at his pre-match press conference. "It’s been a long time for Joe but he’s a huge player for us. It’s been great to see him back amongst the group, he’s a very popular member of the squad. Really pleased for him.

"With Alex again, a really important player, he’s trained well so we’re happy with both players. We’ll have to wait and see, we’ve got one more training session but I’ve been pleased with their progress."

After Callum Wilson underwent surgery on a pectoral injury last week, the Magpies were without a recognised senior striker for last weekend's 2-2 draw against AFC Bournemouth. That saw Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy rotate as the central striker.

Gordon scored from the penalty spot before Matt Ritchie netted a 92nd equaliser after Bournemouth twice led through Dominic Solanke and Antoine Semenyo.

The return of Willock will also Howe's midfield options with only Sean Longstaff, Lewis Miley and Bruno Guimaraes available for the last month or so.
