The Toon Army currently have a host of back-up options between the sticks such as Martin Dubravka, Mark Gillespie, Loris Karius and Karl Darlow, who is currently out on loan in the Championship at Hull City, but they are all over 30 now.
Chevalier, who is from Calais, has been on the books of Lille since 2014 and has risen up through their youth ranks. He was shipped out on loan to Valenciennes in Ligue 2 in the last campaign to gain some experience and went on to play 30 games in all competitions.
Since his return to his parent club last summer, he has enjoyed more senior game time and has made 14 appearances so far this term. He was rewarded with a new deal until the summer of 2027 last month.
Newcastle are now being linked with him as they eye future signings. Howe’s side are hoping to be in the Champions League next season and will need acquisitions to further bolster their ranks.
