Newcastle United line-up versus Liverpool: Alexander Isak debut as Eddie Howe names four changes

Newcastle United’s club-record signing Alexander Isak makes his debut against Liverpool.

Alexander Isak starts for Newcastle United against Liverpool - in one of four changes to the starting XI by Eddie Howe.

The Sweden international completed his £58million club-record move from Real Sociedad on Friday but was unable to make his debut at Wolves having not obtained a work permit.

However, after an unspecified delay, the Magpies finally received the green light from the UK Home Office early this afternoon and Howe has wasted no time in naming him in the starting line-up.

That is partly down to the injuries in the United camp, with the likes of Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin, Bruno Guimaraes ruled out of tonight’s Premier League clash with hamstring injuries.

In defence, captain Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Targett come in for Fabian Schar and Sven Botman. Lascelles partners Burn, who moves back into central defence, with Kieran Trippier and Targett at the full-back.

The midfield three of Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock and Joelinton remains unchanged from the 1-1 draw at Molineux. In attack, Isak and Ryan Fraser replace Chris Wood and Saint-Maximin.

Newcastle United XI: Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, Jamaal Lascelles, Dan Burn, Matt Targett, Sean Longstaff, Joelinton, Joe Willock, Miguel Almiron, Alexander Isak, Ryan Fraser. Subs: Karl Darlow, Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, Matt Ritchie, Jamal Lewis, Javier Manquillo, Chris Wood, Jacob Murphy, Elliot Anderson.
