In defence, Emil Krafth and Matt Targett return at full-back with Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett named as the centre-back pairing.

Joe Willock is the only player to start from Sunday’s 3-3 draw against Premier League champions Manchester City.

Elliot Anderson makes his first senior start for the club and Sean Longstaff makes his first start of the 2022-23 season.

The same goes for the front - Matt Ritchie, Chris Wood and Jacob Murphy.

Howe hinted at changes during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

He said: “Yeah I think there will be changes to the team but I believe in the squad that we have.

“A lot of the players are fighting to play in the Premier League are outstanding players, individuals and characters.

“I’ve got no doubts about freshening the team up and bringing players in. It’s more the mentality has to be right from the group.
