After completing the signing of Yankuba Minteh from Odense Boldklub last week, Newcastle United have reportedly turned their attention to recruiting two young attackers.

Following Dan Ashworth’s arrival as sporting director from Brighton and Hove Albion last summer, the Magpies have been proactive in their search for emerging talent.

Minteh is the latest example after United paid £6million to bring the 18-year-old Gambian winger to St James’ Park. He will spend next season on loan at Dutch champions and Champions League outfit Feyenoord.

While Newcastle’s recruitment team is looking to strengthen Eddie Howe’s first team for the here and now, one eye is always on the future, and that has again been highlighted via recent reports.

As per The Telegraph, United are considering a move for Hertha Berlin forward Derry Scherhant. Meanwhile, The Guardian claims Gambian 19-year-old Adama Bojang is attracting interest from Newcastle and Manchester United.

Scherhant, 20, made 10 appearances in the Bundesliga last season and netted his first senior goal in a 4-1 win over Borussia Monchengladbach. He has two years left on his contract but could be available for just £1.5m.

As well as Newcastle and Man United, Liverpool, Tottenham and Wolves have reportedly shown interest in Bojang, who plays for Gambian outfit Steve Biko FC. German clubs RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt have also been linked.

Bojang, who starred for Gambia in their recent run to the knockout stages of the under-20 World Cup, is available for about £2.6m.

Although Bojang is yet to visit Europe, he could qualify for a UK work permit under the updated Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) criteria for international player visas approved by the Home Office last week.
