The Mail have reported La Liga club Sevilla have told Newcastle they must pay £38million if they want to bring their pursuit of Brazilian defender Diego Carlos to a successful conclusion.

The Magpies have already had two bids of around £28million and £32million rejected and will have to see of competition from the likes of AC Milan and Spurs to secure a deal for the centre-back.

The report also states Newcastle have enquired about the availability of Liverpool defender Nat Phillips - with the Reds preferring to sell the centre-back for a few between £10million and £15million.

Lingard talks intensify

Newcastle remain locked in talks with Premier League rivals Manchester United over a move for midfielder Jesse Lingard.

The Magpies are said to have offered a loan fee of around £5million for the England international - although it is not yet known whether the Red Devils will allow Lingard to leave this month.

The 29-year-old has also been linked with Spurs and West Ham United, where he spent a successful loan spell last season.

Newcastle have an ‘advantage’ in Alli chase

Several reports have suggested Newcastle maintain an interest in Spurs and England midfielder Dele Alli.

But the Mirror believe United’s positive relationship with agency CAA Base - who also represent January signings Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood - will give them an edge in securing a move for the midfielder.

The 25-year-old has only made three Premier League appearances for Spurs since Antonio Conte replaced Nuno Espirito-Santo in November.

Double transfer blow

The Telegraph have reported the Magpies moves for Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu and Bayer Leverkusen left-back Mitchel Bakker will not be successful.

United believe Southampton’s recent takeover will make any move for Salisu “impossible” and the Bakker deal “definitely will not happen” according to the Telegraph’s sources.

Positive noises from move for Wales international

The Star have reported Newcastle have put out feelers over a move for Juventus and Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

The former Arsenal star has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs as he looks to bring an end to an underwhelming stay in Serie A.

Ramsey has reportedly turned down potential moves to Burnley and Crystal Palace - but is more responsive to a move to St James Park.

Competition for Germany international

Serie A champions Inter are set to battle Newcastle for the signature of Atalanta left-back Robin Gosens.

The Germany international is said to be available for around £28million and La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported Inter have sounded out their league rivals about a move for the defender.
