England midfielder an alternative to Lingard

The United hierarchy are trying to persuade Manchester United and England midfielder Jesse Lingard to accept a move to St James Park - according to the Daily Mail.

The 29-year-old is in the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford and also has interest from Spurs and West Ham United.

However, Lingard is said to be “intrigued” by the switch to Tyneside and the Magpies remain hopeful a deal can be struck.

Spurs midfielder Dele Alli is said to be viewed as an alternative to Lingard.

Alli is represented by the CAA Base agency, who also counted January signings Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood amongst their clients.

Sevilla look elsewhere ahead of Carlos move

Spanish outlet Marca are reporting Sevilla are now actively looking for replacements for Brazilian defender Diego Carlos.

The powerful centre-back remains a target for Newcastle and the Magpies are prepared to step up their efforts to conclude their third signing of the window this week.

Zapata deal moving closer

Newcastle’s interest in Atalanta’s Colombian international striker Duvan Zapata has been widely reported over the last fortnight.

Sunday brought an update from the Mirror, who suggest the Serie A club will accept an £8million loan fee for the frontman.

Any deal could then be made permanent for a set fee during the summer.

Bakker progress being made

The Telegraph reported progress has been made in the Magpies pursuit of Dutch Under-21 international defender Mitchel Bakker.

The former Ajax and PSG left-back has made 13 appearances for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen this season - but the Telegraph have suggested Bakker is set to discuss personal terms over a move to Tyneside.

Seagull to become a Magpie?

The Mail have stated Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma is on the radar of Newcastle.

The former Lille star is currently on international duty at the African Cup of Nations with Mali and should feature in their round of 16 tie against Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday.

Bissouma has attracted the interest of a number of Premier League clubs and is said to have a price tag of around £50million.

Magpies midfielder linked with Forest

The Sunday Mirror believe Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff is a target for Championship club Nottingham Forest.

The Reds have been linked with a loan move but now believe the Magpies could be tempted to part with the 24-year-old on a permanent basis.
