Newcastle United are represented in a Premier League team of the season so far compiled by stats experts.

The second international break of the season offers Newcastle United supporters an opportunity to reflect on what has been an intriguing opening to the new campaign.

Eddie Howe’s side encountered a challenging start to the season as they lost three of their opening four Premier League fixtures and entered last month’s international break sat in the bottom six of the table. However, the upturn in form has produced some memorable moments with an 8-0 hammering of Sheffield United topping the bill as the Magpies romped to one of the biggest away wins in Premier League history.

An away draw at AC Milan and a historic 4-1 home win against Paris Saint-Germain got the Champions League campaign off to a fine start and United also progressed in the Carabao Cup with a narrow home victory against treble winners Manchester City.

As it stands, Howe’s side are sat in eighth place in the Premier League table, three points adrift of the European places and a further point outside of the top four. The foundations for what could be yet another memorable season on Tyneside are in place and there is plenty of excitement surrounding what could lie ahead of Howe and his players upon their return to league action when Crystal Palace visit St James Park on Saturday week.

The Magpies are represented in the WhoScored Premier League Team of the Season so far as they take their place alongside an in-form Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, a prolific Aston Villa striker and a goalkeeper proving to be one of the signings of the summer transfer window.
