Newcastle United ‘make contact’ over £21m striker as Magpies ‘rival’ Manchester United for England ace

Newcastle United are one of a several clubs showing an interest in Everton and England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Toffees sponsor Alisher Usmanov has already had his assets frozen in the EU and the UK are expected to impose similar sanctions over his close links with Vladimir Putin.

With uncertainty set to envelope Goodison Park, Premier League rivals Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United are believed to be monitoring the situation with a view to prising Calvert-Lewin away from Merseyside.

The Telegraph are reporting the 24-year-old frontman has been discussed during talks between the Magpies hierarchy as they look to boost Eddie Howe’s forward options during the summer.

Midfielder target set for summer free transfer

Newcastle have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Marseille’s highly-rated midfielder Boubacar Kamara.

Kamara has been linked with Villa

The Magpies are one of a number of clubs thought to be keen on signing the France Under-21 international this summer and he is now in the final months of his current deal with the Ligue 1 giants.

With talks over a new contract failing to progress, Marseille president Pablo Longoria believes Kamara on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Speaking to The Express, he said: “I believe that, until the end, you have to have hope.

“There is no conflict with Boubacar Kamara. His commitment is unquestioned. I do not hide the fact that a club who developed a player is not in a comfortable situation when they could lose him.

“To tell the truth, the ending of a contract is a problem in today’s football. We have to think about how the industry works.

“Money that could have been passed between clubs before, now it’s in the pockets of agents and families. There are advantages to being a free player.”

Magpies consider move for Serie A hot-shot

Reports in Italy suggest Newcastle have “made contact” with Hellas Verona striker Giovanni Simeone.

The 26-year-old frontman has impressed after joining Verona on loan from Cagliari with 15 goals in 24 appearances.

His temporary employers have an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season - and there have been suggestions they could look to make a quick profit on the striker if the take up that option.

A fee of around £21million has been quoted for Simeone.

Newcastle could face competition from La Liga champions Atletico Madrid, who are managed by Simeone’s Dad, Diego.
