Newcastle United are back in action on Sunday when they face Southampton on the south coast.

The Magpies have been in fine form, and they now find themselves inside the top four, albeit they have played a game more than some of the teams below. Eddie Howe’s men will be keen to keep their momentum going as the World Cup break approaches, now eight games unbeaten.

It will be an interesting test against a Southampton side looking to improve on a disappointing start, but in the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding St James’ Park.

Big signing incoming?

Newcastle are said to be putting aside big money for a statement signing during the January transfer window.

The Magpies have already spent a significant amount of money over the last year, and those incomings have surely left them needing to do some serious mathematics over Financial Fair Play. But according to Football Insider, there may still be room for more business.

The website claims Newcastle are putting aside a big chunk of money to make one big signing during the January window. That will be exciting to Magpies fans, especially given the form Howe’s men are already showing this season.

Lascelles decision

The same source are claiming that Newcastle will welcome offers for club captain Jamaal Lascelles ahead of the January transfer window.

Howe seems to have settled on a back line over the last few weeks, and Lascelles has not been part of it, starting just once in the Premier League so far this season. The Magpies are now being tipped to let the 28-year-old leave to allow him to play more regular football.

It will be interesting to see if that rings true, though it would be no real surprise given the likelihood of Lascelles remaining in a supplamentary role.
