Newcastle United man spotted in training after seven weeks out

The Newcastle United right-back has resumed his season-long loan spell at Swansea City.

Newcastle United right-back Harrison Ashby is a nearing a return from injury after seven weeks out.

The 22-year-old is on loan at Championship side Swansea City but hasn't featured since November because of a hamstring issue.

Ashby has missed The Swans' last 10 games whilst being assessed by the Magpies but could be involved for the visit to Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon after confirming his return to training.

On Instagram, Ashby shared a photo of him taking part in a training session with the caption "get the preds out [eyes emoji]."

The Welsh club are now managed by Luke Williams after he left his role at League Two side Notts County last week to succeed Michael Duff.

Their visit to Birmingham is Williams' first Championship match in charge. And the same goes for former Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray, who replaced Wayne Rooney on Monday.

Ashby has made 13 appearances in all competitions for Swansea since joining on loan in the summer and had impressed before his injury lay-off.

This month marks a year since Ashby first signed for Newcastle from Premier League rivals West Ham United. He is yet to make a competitive appearance for United but did feature in pre-season, including matches against Chelsea and Brighton at the Premier League Summer Series in the United States.
