Goalkeeper makes revelation over exit

Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman reveals Preston North End’s interest in him stemmed from last season.

The stopper spent time on loan at AFC Bournemouth last term and emerged on the Lilywhites’ radar then.

He has told their official club website:

“You know, it’s funny because obviously I came to Deepdale when I was at Bournemouth and we lost the game 2-1, but the manager [Ryan Lowe] and Marshy [Mike Marsh] gave me the heads up there to say they were interested in me.

“Ever since then I’ve kept a close eye on Preston and I was really interested in coming here.

“I’ve said in many interviews, every time I went to Deepdale it was a tough game against tough opponents, so when the manager told me he wanted to sign me in the summer I was buzzing and I just wanted to get it done straightaway.”

Newcastle had competition for summer recruit

Howe’s side had competition from AC Milan for Sven Botman’s signature over the summer.

The centre-back ended moving to England from French outfit Lille.

However, Milan technical director Paulo Maldini has revealed that they ‘tried’ to land him in the last window, as per Milan News.

Ex-player rebuffs move abroad

Former Newcastle loan man Danny Rose has reportedly rebuffed interest from abroad as he hunts for a new club.

He had a loan spell at St James’ Park during the 2019/20 season from Tottenham Hotspur.

As reported by The Sun, he has been in ‘contact’ with Greek giants AEK Athens but wants to stay in this country, with Wigan Athletic now a potential destination for him.
