Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden has hinted at a summer exit via an emotional social media post.

The Magpies rounded off their 2021/22 Premier League campaign with a 2-1 victory at Burnley on Sunday in what is likely to be some players’ last game for the club.

Those who weren’t involved against the Clarets are, in the eyes of the supporters, at risk of being offloaded this summer.

Eddie Howe has refrained from naming players who could be moved on but Hayden, along with Freddie Woodman, Jeff Hendrick, Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez, Jamal Lewis, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle, are thought to be the most obvious candidates.

Hayden was among five players to be left out of the Magpies’ 25-man Premier League squad for the second-half of the campaign after undergoing knee surgery.

Back fit now after returning to training last month, the 27-year-old is unsure what the future holds.

But in a post by Hayden on Twitter, fans have wondered if Hayden is bidding an emotional farewell.

The former Arsenal youngster tweeted: “Another season completed. Started poorly, ended on fire. Takeover tick, future is bright for this great club.

“Personally my toughest in pro football but everything happens for a reason.

“Thank you for your incredible support this season and over the last 6 years #nufc @NUFC.”

Hayden joined Newcastle in 2016 and lifted the Championship title in his debut season.

In total, the central midfielder, under contract until 2026, has made 171 appearances.
