But for a ridiculous refereeing decision in the Parc des Princes, Newcastle United would have recorded arguably their greatest ever away European result, outside of Budapest, obviously, against Paris Saint Germain. Winger Miguel Almiron was pictured in a Paris airport flagging a taxi, Sandro Tonali’s other half took to Instagram to share them both spending time in the French capital. But it was the social media snaps of Joelinton and other half Thays Gondim that caught the eye.

Joelinton along with Tonali are not expected to play any part for the Magpies when they take on League Two Bromley in the third round of the FA Cup at St James’ Park on Sunday. Paraguayan Almiron might well be called upon, however, with his gametime limited so far this campaign.
