Newcastle United supporters ‘not daft’ as £255m transfer exodus changes 2030 vision

David Hopkinson plans to transform Newcastle United into one of the world’s biggest clubs by 2030.

Kevin Nolan believes Newcastle United can rise again using a fresh strategy in the transfer market.

However, the former Toon captain called for time and caution as Eddie Howe rebuilds his squad with youth from the continent. The Magpies have already lost Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali - with Bruno Guimaraes also angling for a move to Arsenal.

In response, Newcastle have attacked the European market, signing four players under the age of 20. More incomings are expected as the Magpies aim to give Howe the tools for a successful season.

‘Buy into that’ - Kevin Nolan

Speaking to talkSPORT, former captain Nolan has urged the supporters to rally behind Newcastle’s new vision. He can see a world where United enjoy a successful campaign before triumphing in one of the lesser European competitions the following season.

“They've all got to buy into that now,” Nolan said. “It's got to be where you're giving (them) time to bed in, to settle them all in, as well as a squad who can go after the Premier League this year without any European distractions. You can be on the training pitch with these players and get them to where they need to be.

“To get them into Europe again, for another season, which a club like Newcastle will probably demand. But I don't think the demand is Champions League, to be winning a league in five years. I think it's now (time) to be European adventurers, year in, year out. I think that's how you do it.

“Can Newcastle go and win the Conference League one year, then go and win the Europa the next year, then be in the Champions League, that's another way of getting it. So there's ways in which you can do it now, and you've got to look at it, but everybody's got to be on board.”

Kevin Nolan hails Newcastle United fans

Nolan also hailed Newcastle fans for their passion and understanding - suggesting selling Guimaraes could be the right decision. He added: “They're one of the best fan bases I played for, the way they love the club. So I think as long as they see a clear vision, they'll be behind the team and they'll make it difficult for the opponents every week anyway.

“They want success, they've had success, so they'll be smelling it. But what they've got to do is they've got to trust Eddie and what he's going to be doing. They're not daft up there. They'll understand all this.

“I think the majority would say as much as Bruno's done for them and how brilliant he's been, they'll be probably saying ‘Yeah, let's move (him) on’. They'll be able to see the vision of the club by what the transfer activity says.

“They've paid big money for these 20-year-olds who are supposed to be the next ones to be the best. So they've gone a different way. Hopefully, it's going to be the way which is right.”
