Alan Pardew makes huge Lewis Miley claim - do Newcastle United supporters agree?
Lewis Miley is ready to take on more responsibility at Newcastle United.
Former Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew believes Lewis Miley is already a better player than Sandro Tonali.
Toon chiefs set a bold £100million price tag on the Italian earlier this summer. Tottenham Hotspur coughed up as part of a £380million rebuild in North London.
Tonali faced the Newcastle boo boys at the weekend before being hooked on 74 minutes. It was fitting that his replacement, Nico Gonzalez, shone brightly on the Spurs stage.
However, a certain Miley also quietly impressed as he aims to take his Newcastle opportunity. Without Tonali or Bruno Guimaraes, the Stanley native can finally stake his claim for a key role at St James’ Park.
Alan Pardew on Lewis Miley
Speaking to talkSPORT, ex-Newcastle boss Pardew tipped Miley for a future England call-up. He said: "I want to speak about Miley. They have sold Tonali, and I want you to ask me if I'd rather have Tonali or Miley. Miley, all day long. He's young, he's quick, and he's got great technique.
"He's got great temperament and he is going to be around for the next 10 years. I think he is going to play for England. He was outstanding for a young player, so Newcastle might have done some really good business.
"That is something they might have known in that camp. I am sure Eddie Howe knows it, that Miley could be better than Tonali. It feels like they've moved Tonali on and are letting the young lad spread his wings."
Matthias Jaissle on Lewis Miley
Jaissle previously raved about Miley while asking for reporters not to raise the pressure on his shoulders. He added: “I don't want to give him a huge responsibility and pressure, and you should also not give him that from outside. He has so much potential.
“We need to let him grow, develop naturally. He gets the full support. But, I'm really looking forward to seeing him, 100 per cent fit and ready because of his qualities. It's, it's a true, true talent."
