Newcastle United ‘on alert’ for £30m West Ham star, Leeds United ‘join race’ for Toon target

All the latest transfer news and speculation involving Newcastle United.

With the summer transfer window in full swing, Newcastle United look set for a busy couple of months.

The Toon Army have already been active in the market, with England international goalkeeper Nick Pope becoming their latest recruit earlier in the week.

But plenty more business is expected besides, and the Magpies continue to be linked with a whole host of high-profile talents.

With that in mind, here’s Sunday’s Newcastle United transfer news...

Toon on alert for Soucek

Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Everton are all on alert, as Tomas Soucek and West Ham continue to struggle to reach an agreement over a new deal.

According The Sun, the Czech midfielder’s future in East London is in doubt after he was informed that he will not be receiving a pay rise any time soon.

Soucek is currently half-way through a four-year contract with the Hammers, and it is suggested that his current employers could even be willing to listen to offers in the region of £30 million for his services.

Leeds and Newcastle battle for Nyamsi

Leeds United will battle Newcastle United for Strasbourg defender Gerzino Nyamsi, according to a report from Goal.

The towering centre-back impressed in Ligue 1 last term, and still has four years left to run on his current deal.

Nonetheless, Leeds, Newcastle, and Serie A outfit Napoli are all said to be keen on sealing a potential transfer this summer, with Jesse Marsch’s men in particular understood to be considering a swoop for the 25-year-old “above all”.

Carroll fails to secure Brugge deal

Former Toon striker Andy Carroll will remain a free agent for the time being after Club Brugge opted against signing the 33-year-old.

The target man had been heavily touted for a move to Belgium, and even cut short his honeymoon to undergo a medical for the Champions League side.

HLN report that Carroll “failed” those tests, however, causing the Brugge to back out of an agreement.

The forward has been without a club since he was released by West Brom at the end of last season.
