Despite the season being over Newcastle United attention hasn’t been diverted away from St James’ Park thanks to Sam Fender’s upcoming stint at the stadium.

Next Friday and Saturday the Geordie musician will be playing to two sold out crowds at the home of the Magpies and the excitement is building, especially for one United co-owner.

Newcastle United aren’t the only Toon institution showing their love. Greggs have announced a collaboration with Fender which will see their Grainger Street store become a support act for the singer.

And this is exactly where the United and Greggs worlds collide.

Mehrdad Ghodoussi replied to the bakery chain’s announcement on Twitter with the comment: ‘Sausage roll,’ with the tongue out emoji, showing his love for the Geordie delicacy.

But this isn’t the first time the co-owner has engaged with the collaboration. Fender posted a photo of him as a child eating a sausage roll teasing the imminent announcement.

He said: ‘One week to go until St James’ Park!! Until then [Greggs] have been cooking up some treats.’

To this, Ghodoussi reacted with two hallelujah emojis.
