Mehrdad Ghodoussi has passionately reacted to the news that Newcastle United are now mathematically safe from Premier League relegation.
The Magpies had known for a few weeks that their top-flight status was secured, however confirmation of that arrived on Wednesday night following Leeds United’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
No team in Premier League history had avoided relegation after failing to win any of their opening 14 games. United, however, have broken that trend and survived with two games to spare.
Their form in 2022 has been pivotal to staying up, with their 10 wins and two draws - accumulating to a total of 32 points - bettered only by Liverpool and Manchester City.
Newcastle can start to build towards an exciting future, where it is hoped relegation battles are now a thing of the past and competing for trophies is the present.
On Twitter last night, Ghodoussi, co-owner of the Magpies, tweeted: “When all odds were against us, when everyone doubted us, we united and forged ahead.
“Tonight is the result of that hard work.
“Thank you Eddie, you have been incredible. Thank you to the coaching staff, our squad and everyone at the club, and of course our fans.”
Jamie Reuben added: #WeAreUnited”.
