All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Newcastle United as the international break takes hold.

The Magpies have put together a disappointing start to the season so far, winning once and losing the other three, though it must be said that the fixture list has not been kind. Still, Newcastle know they need to improve significantly to meet the standards set last season, and they also have the Champions League to deal with when they return from the break, highlighting the need for quick answers.

In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding St James’ Park.

Howe stance

Newcastle may have endured a tough start to the season, but it should come as no surprise that the club remain totally behind Howe.

Fabrizio Romano has told CaughtOffside: “It’s not been the best start to the season for Newcastle United, who have lost three in a row since their opening day win over Aston Villa. Of course this is a disappointment after the superb achievements of last season, but I think fans can be calm.

“My understanding is that Eddie Howe is absolutely not under pressure, it’s all quiet. The Newcastle owners love the manager and there are no issues at the moment. Of course Howe will have time to play Champions League football as Newcastle coach, there are no messages in a different direction at this moment in time.”

Hayden verdict

Isaac Hayden has moved on to pastures new, at least in the medium term.

Hayden has joined Standard Liege on a season-long loan after being told he was not part of Howe’s plans, but former Newcastle star Phillipe Albert isn’t convinced the signing makes sense.

“Hayden? It will take him two or three months to get back to his level following his injury,” Albert told La Tribune. “Standard needs players who know the league and are good straight away.”
