Newcastle United player ratings: 5/10 ‘off day’ as Sandro Tonali stars on debut v Rangers

Newcastle United player ratings from the 2-1 win at Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

Newcastle United recorded back-to-back wins in pre-season with a 2-1 win at Rangers.

After sitting out of Saturday’s opening pre-season friendly at Gateshead, international stars Sven Botman, Fabian Schar, Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron returned to the starting XI.

Sandro Tonali also made his non-competive debut and he was involved in the opener in the 16th minute when Miguel Almiron rolled the ball past Allan McGregor.

The Italian was among seven players replaced at half-time, which saw the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon introduced.

United looked in control until a mix up between Karl Darlow and Guimaraes allowed Sam Lammers to equalise in the 64th-minute.

But Eddie Howe’s side found a winner three minutes before the end when Harrison Ashby headed home Alexander Isak’s cross.
