Newcastle United are out of Europe following a 2-1 defeat against AC Milan at St James' Park.
Eddie Howe's side needed to beat Milan and hope Paris Saint-Germain dropped points to Borussia Dortmund to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League. That scenario played out at half-time as Joelinton put United in front.
PSG ended up drawing in Germany. A draw for United would have been enough for a Europa League spot but two second half goals from Milan ends Newcastle's European journey in the 2023-24 season.
Eddie Howe named one change from the 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday with Callum Wilson coming in for Alexander Isak, while the bench was bolstered by the return of Dan Burn and Sean Longstaff.

News of Dortmund's lead filtered through to St James' Park in the 50th minute as the noise levels increased but the German side's advantage barely lasted as PSG levelled through Warren Zaire-Emery.
And soon after, Milan equalised via Christian Pulisic.
There was VAR drama in Germany when Kylian Mbappe had a goal disallowed for offside. But an emotionally draining night ended in United exiting Europe altogether after Samuel Chukwueze's 84th-minute.

Very good defensively up against the dangerous Rafael Leao. Found space to get forward and put some decent crosses into the box.

Played out a physical battle with Olivier Giroud. Did well aerially against the former Arsenal and Chelsea man.
4. Fabian Schar - 6
Composed throughout but paid the price by pushing forward and leaving space for Milan to counter-attack and win.
