Newcastle United suffered a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur - making it three defeats on the spin for Eddie Howe’s side.
Fabian Schar’s free-kick on 38 minutes handed the Magpies a shock lead but that was as good as it got in North London for the visitors.
Ben Davies levelled before half-time. And after a team talk from Antonio Conte, Spurs tore Newcastle to shreds in the second-half.
Matt Doherty, Son Heung-min, Emerson Royal and Steven Bergwijn inflicted a heavy scoreline on Howe’s men to make three losses in a row.
United, still nine points above the Premier League zone, return to St James’ Park on Friday to host Wolves needing a reaction.
Here, our writer Jordan Cronin dishes out his Newcastle player ratings from the defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

5. Matt Targett - 3
Targett is usually a nailed on 7/10 but his display in North London was his worst since arriving on loan in January. He was constantly exposed and as a result, left teammate Burn helplessly chasing runs in behind. Photo: Stu Forster

6. Jonjo Shelvey - 4
Tried to dictate things for United in the first-half but did nothing but slow his side’s attacks down. Briefly played in a back three as Howe attempted to gain control as Spurs ran riot after the break. Photo: OLI SCARFF

7. Joe Willock - 4
Had a couple of opportunities to score. In the first-half, an outstanding block from Romero denied him. Defensively, Willock was part of a midfield that was sliced open on countless occasions. | Getty Images

8. Joelinton - 4
An off day for the Brazilian, but the same goes for every single one of his teammates. Provided a comical moment on a grim afternoon for United when he pushed Bentancur to the floor on the brink of half-time. Photo: ANTHONY DEVLIN
