Newcastle United's Premier League away days blues continued with a 3-0 defeat at Everton after second-half goals from Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure & Beto.
Eddie Howe made one enforced change from the 1-0 win over Manchester United on Saturday evening with Martin Dubrvaka replacing the injured Nick Pope in between sticks.
The Magpies came into the game on the back of two consecutive Premier League wins against Chelsea and the Red Devils but struggled to get going from the get-go.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed a sitter from six yards out after being played onside by Kieran Trippier. A compact Toffees arguably caused more of a threat, although United did create chances of their own through Miguel Almiron and Alexander Isak.
The visitors momentarily improved after the break and offered more intent in the final third with Anthony Gordon, making his return to his former club, wasting two very good chances.
Everton's biggest threat were crosses into the box but it was Newcastle's own undoing that saw Dwight McNeil make it 1-0 on 78 minutes after Trippier's mistake.
Their lead was then doubled not long after when Trippier was again at fault by gifting possession away as Abdoulaye Doucore tapped home McNeil's cross.
And to cap off a nightmare night for the England man, Trippier was the man that played Beto onside for 3-0. Newcastle have won just once on their travels in the league this season - the 8-0 win at Sheffield United.
