Newcastle United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund at St James’ Park after Felix Nmecha’s first-half goal.
Eddie Howe made two changes to his starting XI with Alexander Isak and Miguel Almiron recalled in place of Callum Wilson and Jacob Murphy, who both scored in Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
Unfortunately for United and Isak, the Swede’s evening lasted just 14 minutes when he was forced off through injury. Wilson was introduced and watched as the hosts fell behind on the brink of half-time through Felix Nmecha.
Newcastle huffed and puffed after the break with Wilson, Jamaal Lascelles and Anthony Gordon going close but the visitors held out to go level on points with United in Group F.

1. Nick Pope - 8
A world-class double save to deny Donyell Malen and Niclas Fullkrug before being beaten by Nmecha. Distributed the ball extremely well with his long throw.
2. Kieran Trippier - 6
Trippier has been an assist machine this season but his delivery into the box wasn’t of the usual standard tonight.
3. Jamaal Lascelles - 6
A pretty solid display defensively but caught ball watching a couple of times. Slow in possession.
4. Fabian Schar - 8
Created a chance for Wilson with a superb tackle high up the field. Another faultless all round display by the Swiss.
