Newcastle United player ratings: Five 8/10s and two 9s as Magpies star ‘absolute colossus’ in Liverpool loss

Newcastle United player ratings from the last-gasp 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League.

A late, late winner from Fabio Carvalho saw Liverpool steal all three points against Newcastle United.

With five minutes added on time, the Reds substitute struck in 98th-minute to break Magpies’ hearts at Anfield.

Eddie Howe’s side had lead through debutant Alexander Isak but that was cancelled out by Roberto Firmino before Carvalho scored.

Howe handed a full debut to club-record signing Isak - just hours after his work permit was signed off by the UK Home Office.

Isak’s inclusion was one of four changes from Howe as Jamaal Lascelles, Matt Targett and Ryan Fraser called into his starting XI.

There was no Callum Wilson, Bruno Guimaraes or Allan Saint-Maximin at Anfield with the trio ruled out with hamstring injuries.

United took a deserved lead at Anfield when that man Isak latched onto a well-timed pass by Sean Longstaff to produce an emphatic finish into the roof of the net.

Isak was denied a second shortly after half-time by the offside flag before Firmino levelled for the hosts on the hour-mark.

Just when it looked United would take a point and maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign, Carvalho struck.
