Newcastle United player ratings: Five 8/10s as Allan Saint-Maximin stunner earns point at Wolves
Newcastle United player ratings from the 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Newcastle United maintained their unbeaten start to the Premier League season after Allan Saint-Maximin’s stunning equaliser at Wolves.
The Frenchman hit a beautifully struck volley in the 90th-minute to cancel out Ruben Neves’ first-half opener for the hosts.
Eddie Howe made two enforced changes to starting XI against Manchester City - with Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes sidelined.
Wilson, replaced by Chris Wood, was ruled out during the week, while Guimaraes’ absence was a big shock. Sean Longstaff got his chance in midfield.
The Magpies boss was unable to call upon club-record signing Alexander Isak either, with the striker yet to receive a work permit.
Wolves took the lead when Neves hit a long range shot out of reach for Nick Pope.
United improved after half-time and continued to see the better side of the possession stats and grabbed a deserved point after Saint-Maximin’s incredible volley.
Here, our writer Jordan Cronin dishes out his Newcastle player ratings from the 1-1 draw at Molineux:

1. Nick Pope - 7
Made a couple of routine saves. Could do nothing about Ruben Neves’ strike

2. Kieran Trippier - 8
Another solid display by United’s stand-in skipper. Led by example, defended superbly and delivered dangerous crosses from both open play and set pieces.

3. Fabian Schar - 7
A yellow card challenge on Pedro Neto almost turned into a red after a VAR review, however Schar’s blushes were spared.

4. Sven Botman - 8
Stood up to the challenge against Raul Jimenez. Really composed and precise with the ball at his feet.
