Newcastle United player ratings from the 1-0 win over Arsenal at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Arsenal at St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe sprung a major surprise in his team selection by dropping Sandro Tonali to the bench. The Italian was one of three changes as Bruno Guimaraes, Tino Livramento and Dan Burn returned to the starting XI.

The Magpies broke the deadlock in the 12th minute when Anthony Gordon’s cross was headed home by Alexander Isak. It was the Swede’s fourth goal of the campaign his 12th in as many league appearances at St James’ Park.

Arsenal had the majority of the possession but United kept them at arms length bar their obvious threat from set pieces.

Newcastle’s win was their in the Premier League since the 2-1 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers in September.
