Newcastle United player ratings gallery: ‘Purring’ & ‘faultless’ 9/10s shine in Leicester City win
Newcastle United player ratings from the 3-0 win against Leicester City.
Newcastle United moved up to second in the Premier League table with a 3-0 victory at Leicester City.
Eddie Howe’s side picked up where they left off before the World Cup break after goals from Chris Wood, Miguel Almiron and Joelinton sealed a sixth straight league win.
Howe was forced into one change from the side that beat Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday with Wood in for Callum Wilson, who was missing through illness.
After Daniel Amartey fouled Joelinton inside the penalty box just two minutes in, Wood opened the scoring from the spot.
Almiron doubled United’s lead in the seventh minute when the Paraguayan played a one-two with Bruno Guimaraes to slot the ball inside the bottom left corner.
It was 3-0 just after the half-hour mark when Kieran Trippier’s floated corner was headed home by Joelinton.
Our writer Jordan Cronin was the King Power Stadium - and here’s his Newcastle United player ratings:

1. Nick Pope - 7
Claimed plenty of crosses. Brave goalkeeping to deny Patson Daka to maintain United’s 2-0 lead midway through the first half.

2. Kieran Trippier - 8
Important contributions at both ends. Didn’t put a foot wrong defensively. Floated in the corner that Joelinton headed home.

3. Fabian Schar - 8
Always looked for the forward pass, a couple of which opened up the Leicester defence. Read the game well.

4. Sven Botman - 9
A faultless display, once again living up to his ‘Rolls Royce’ tag. Cleared a Daka effort off the line and rescued United in a three v one situation.
