Newcastle United player ratings gallery: Three 6/10s and one 8/10 as Magpies edge past Everton
Newcastle United player ratings from the 1-0 win over Everton at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United remained sixthh in the Premier League table with a narrow 1-0 win over Everton.
Miguel Almiron’s opener on 31 minutes was a moment of magic, and one that won the game for Eddie Howe’s side.
Howe opted for an unchanged starting XI - just three days after the Magpies drew 0-0 against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Everton were marginally the better side in the opening half-hour before Almiron broke the deadlock with another incredible finish.
Kieran Trippier, Jacob Murphy, Callum Wilson, Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes were all involved as Almiron caressed the ball over Jordan Pickford from 18 yards.
The victory is United’s fourth this season - extending their unbeaten run to six matches.

1. Nick Pope - 7
Was quick off his line to relieve pressure on his teammates. Didn’t have many saves to make.

2. Kieran Trippier - 7
A constant threat down the right-hand side. Delivered the cross that led to Almiron’s opener. Defensively, he was done by the pace of Gray on a few occasions.

3. Fabian Schar - 7
Another solid display by the Switzerland defender. Very good with the ball at his feet. Kept a clean sheet.

4. Sven Botman - 7
Nowhere close to the quality we’ve seen in recent weeks. Several mis-placed passes. Calvert-Lewin got the better of the Dutchman but he kept a clean sheet.
