Newcastle United player ratings gallery: Three 9/10s and three 8/10s leaves Tottenham stunned
Newcastle United player ratings from the 2-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Newcastle United moved into the top four of the Premier League with a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur.
Eddie Howe’s side were 2-0 up at the break after goals from Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron before Harry Kane pulled one back just after the break.
United, however, hung on to extend their unbeaten run to seven matches.
Howe named just one change from the 1-0 win over Everton in midweek with Jacob Murphy replaced by Joe Willock.
The Magpies saw plenty of possession in the opening stages and had a penalty appeal turned down by Jarred Gillett when Joelinton was challenged by Emerson Royal.
VAR, however, was on United’s side when Wilson opened the scoring on 31 minutes, much to the displeasure of the home side.
A pass over the top by Fabian Schar saw Hugo Lloris bump into Wilson, who turned and lifted the ball into the net. VAR checked for a foul and a potential handball but the goal stood.
Nine minutes later, Almiron doubled Newcastle’s lead. The Paraguayan held off the challenge of Ryan Sessegnon and breezed past Clement Lenglet before slotting the ball under Lloris.
United had another strong penalty appeal waved away just after the break when Joelinton’s header hit the arm of Royal but neither Gillett or VAR were interested.
Not long after, Spurs pulled one back in the 54th-minute when a corner was flicked by Clement Lenglet to Kane at the backpost, who bundled the ball home after getting goal side of Kieran Trippier.
Here’s our writer Jordan Cronin’s Newcastle player ratings from the win in North London.

1. Nick Pope - 9
Two incredible first half saves to deny Heung-min Son and Harry Kane before Newcastle moved into a 2-0 lead.

2. Kieran Trippier - 7
A rare lapse of concentration by Trippier against his former club to allow Kane to get goal side and score Spurs’ first goal.

3. Fabian Schar - 9
A ball playing centre-back at his best. Found Joelinton early on in what turned into a Newcastle penalty appeal before finding Wilson with a similar ball for his goal.

4. Sven Botman - 8
Strong and physical. Twice shoved Harry Kane off the ball in the first half.
