Newcastle United player ratings: 'Torrid' & 'woeful' 3/10s as Nottingham Forest win at St James' Park

Newcastle United player ratings: Eddie Howe's side suffered a 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest at St James' Park.

Chris Wood came back to haunt Newcastle United as his hat-trick condemned Eddie Howe's side to a rare defeat St James' Park.

Alexander Isak gave the Magpies the lead in the 23rd minute before Wood equalised on the brink of half-time. He then added this second and third early in the second-half. Only Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal have won on Tyneside in the Premier League since Howe was appointed in November.

Howe made two changes from the 1-0 defeat to Luton Town. Sven Botman was handed his first Premier League start since September as Jamaal Lascelles dropped out through injury. Alexander Isak was selected ahead of Callum Wilson in attack.

And it was the Swede that put United ahead in the 23rd minute when he scored from the penalty spot after being tripped by Ola Aina.

While Newcastle continued to dominate possession, the visitors produced some dangerous moments on the counter-attack and equalised when Anthony Elanga set up Wood, who tapped home into an empty net.

Wood then flipped the game on its head in the second-half. Elanga assisted the New Zealand striker again before rounding Martin Dubravka to complete his hat-trick.
