Newcastle United rounded off their remarkable 2022-23 Premier League season with a 1-1 draw at Chelsea.

Eddie Howe named four changes to his starting XI with Martin Dubravka, Matt Targett, Anthony Gordon and Allan Saint-Maximin in for Nick Pope, Dan Burn, Sean Longstaff and Callum Wilson.

Gordon, a £45million January signing from Everton, scored his first goal in Magpies colours when he tapped home Elliot Anderson’s low cross in the ninth minute. Chelsea then equalised near the half-hour mark when Raheem Sterling’s shot was deflected into his own net by fellow England international Kieran Trippier.

Here’s our player ratings from the score draw at Stamford Bridge:

Martin Dubravka - 8

Produced three standout saves to deny Thiago Silva & Raheem Sterling from close range, and then Christian Pulisic in the closing stage. His first Premier League start in 12 months.

Kieran Trippier - 5

Handled Sterling well in the opening stages but couldn’t prevent his England teammate from scoring after deflecting his shot past Dubravka. Didn’t impact the game like he can from the right side.

Fabian Schar - 8

Top class distribution throughout the afternoon. Sprayed a quality pass out to Saint-Maximin in the build-up to the opening goal.

Sven Botman - 7

Made a couple of solid interceptions in an overall solid performance, albeit a couple of shaky moments late on.

Matt Targett - 6

Cleared a Sterling shot off the line but had a tough task dealing with Chukwunonso Madueke. Beaten by Sterling in the build-up to Chelsea’s equaliser.

Bruno Guimaraes - 6

Man marked by Enzo Fernandez, which limited the Brazilian’s involvement.

Elliot Anderson - 7

Assisted Gordon’s opener after a good move down the right. Looked a lot more decisive in the final third and was tidy in possession.

Anthony Gordon - 8

His best performance since arriving from Everton. Was box-to-box in his midfield role and scored a deserved goal, his first in Newcastle colours.

Miguel Almiron - 5

Extremely wasteful in the final third after missing a hat-trick of chances in the first-half.

Allan Saint-Maximin - 6

Blew hot and cold throughout the afternoon. Played a key role in Gordon’s opener but was wasteful on other occasions.

Alexander Isak - 6

Had a shot saved in the first-half but struggled to make an impact on the game, although that wasn’t through a lack of trying.

Jacob Murphy (on for Gordon, 69) - 6

Injected some pace down the right but didn’t make a notable impact.

Callum Wilson (on for Saint-Maximin, 69) - 6

Similar to Murphy, Wilson got on the ball in a couple of a good areas but failed to register a shot at Kepa.

Dan Burn (on for Targett, 75) - 5

Perhaps fortunate not to concede a penalty after Sterling’s shot hit Burn’s arm.

Lewis Miley (on for Anderson, 76) - 7

Almost a dream debut for the 17-year-old with a shot from outside the box that hit the crossbar.
