Newcastle United took another step closer to Champions League qualification with a 3-1 win over bottom-side Southampton.
The visitors broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when Stuart Armstrong converted Kamaldeen Sulemana’s cross after Bruno Guimaraes was dispossessed by Romeo Lavia in the build up.
But United turned it around after the break. Callum Wilson scored within 10 minutes of coming on as a substitute to tap home Alexander Isak’s delivery.
An own goal by Theo Walcott then handed Eddie Howe’s side the lead before Wilson added his second with a composed finish by goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.

2. Nick Pope - 7
Made two really good saves in the opening stages. A long punt by Pope led to Wilson’s second goal.
3. Kieran Trippier - 7
Was caught napping a little when Armstrong got across the England right-back for the opener. His in-swinging corners caused problems for McCarthy in the Saints goal.
4. Fabian Schar - 7
Composed display by the Swiss, which is nothing out the ordinary.
