Newcastle United player ratings v West Ham United: ‘Shaky’ 5 as 8/10 ‘back to his best’

Newcastle United player ratings from the 5-1 win at West Ham United.

Newcastle United recorded a fourth straight win by hammering West Ham United to remain third in the Premier League table.

Callum Wilson and Joelinton netted braces, while substitute Alexander Isak also got on the scoresheet.

Eddie Howe named two changes to his starting XI - and both players came up trumps inside the opening quarter of an hour.

Wilson headed home Allan Saint-Maximin’s cross in the sixth minute before Joelinton latched onto Fabian Schar’s long ball to round goalkeeper Lukas Fabianski and finish into an empty net.

The Brazilian was initially flagged offside but a VAR check proved he had indeed beaten the trap set by the Hammers defence with Emerson Palmieri the man slacking.

West Ham pulled one back in the 40th-minute when an unmarked Kurt Zouma headed home Jarrod Bowen’s in-swinging corner but their hope was short lived.

Thirty seconds into the second half, Newcastle capitalised on Nayef Aguerd’s mistake and Wilson tapped home his second of the evening.

Wilson was replaced by Isak around the hour-mark and the Swede got in on the act when Lukas Fabianski came sprinting off his goal line. Joelinton then added his second in the closing stages.
