Newcastle United player ratings vs Bournemouth: 'Sluggish' 4/10 & 'anonymous' 5/10 in 1-1 draw

Newcastle United drew 1-1 to AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium - and here are our Magpies player ratings.

Eddie Howe made two changes from the 1-0 win over Southampton. Emil Krafth replaced the suspended Fabian Schar at centre-half, while Lloyd Kelly was preferred over Lewis Hall at left-back for his full debut against his former club.

Meanwhile, Martin Dubravka dropped out of squad due a concussion he sustained in training, with John Ruddy getting the nod ahead of summer signing Odysseas Vlachodimos.

The Magpies made a positive start to the game but Bournemouth soon grew into, taking the lead in the 37th minute when Marcus Tavernier tapped home Antoine Semenyo’s low cross from close-range.

Bournemouth continued to stay in control until the introduction of Kieran Trippier and Harvey Barnes on the hour-mark. Barnes immediately struck a shot narrowly wide before setting up the equaliser when Gordon’s poked home his delivery in the 76th minute.

It was wide open from then on as both teams pushed for a winner, the visitors arguably looked the more likely with Neto producing fantastic saves to deny Dan Burn and Bruno Guimaraes. However, it was Bournemouth who thought they had won it through substitute Dango Ouattara but VAR ruled it out for a handball.
