Newcastle United were hit for four as they lost 4-0 to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
Eddie Howe took a 25-man squad to Parkhead, but it didn’t include either Alexander Isak or Joelinton. The pair, according to the club, were left out due to managing their minutes.
Nick Pope started in-between the sticks behind a four man defence of Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Sven Botman and Matt Targett, who was making his first Newcastle start since February.
In the middle of the park, captain Bruno Guimaraes started alongside Lewis Miley and Joe Willock. Jacob Murphy and Harvey Barnes lined up on the flanks with Will Osula through the middle.
Newcastle fell behind in the 27th minute when Willock conceded a penalty. Arne Engels stepped up to send Pope the wrong way. Pope was then at fault as Johnny Kenny made it 2-0 on the brink of half-time after the United goalkeeper misjudged a long ball forward.
At half-time, Howe made nine changes, with only Osula and Miley staying on.
Martin Dubravka lined up behind a back four of Emil Krafth, Jamaal Lascelles, Dan Burn and Alex Murphy. In midfield, Sandro Tonali and Joe White joined Miley while in attack new signing Anthony Elanga accompanied Anthony Gordon and Osula.
But just eight minutes into the second-half, Celtic made it 3-0 through Hyunjun Yang before Liam Scales went on to add a fourth.
