Newcastle United player ratings vs Everton: 'Silly' 3/10 but 'outstanding' 8/10 in 1-1 draw

Newcastle United player ratings vs Everton: Dominic Calvert Lewin cancels out Alexander Isak's opener.

Newcastle United missed the opportunity to claim back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since December after drawing 1-1 against Everton at St James' Park.

The Magpies led through Alexander Isak's early opener, however, couldn't hold out for three points following Dominic Calvert-Lewin's 88th minute penalty.

Eddie Howe made four changes to the side that beat West Ham United 4-3 with the injured Jamaal Lascelles and Tino Livramento absent along with the suspended Anthony Gordon. Joe Willock dropped to the bench with Emil Krafth, Lewis Hall, Elliot Anderson and Harvey Barnes brought into the starting XI.

The Magpies capitalised on their fast start by taking the lead in the 15th minute when a lofted ball over the top by Barnes was finished off by Isak after the Swede calmly cut inside to slot the ball past Jordan Pickford and into the bottom right corner.

United thought they had grabbed a second in the 58th minute when a quickly taken free-kick by Jacob Murphy was put into the box by Isak and finished off by Dan Burn. But following a VAR check, Isak was flagged offside and it remained 1-0.

Everton immediately introduced James Garner, Andre Gomes and Calvert-Lewin and it was the latter that equalised late on. A VAR check saw substitute Paul Dummett penalised for a foul on Ashley Young and Calvert-Lewin made no mistake from the spot.
