Newcastle United player ratings vs Manchester United: 'Immense' & 'outstanding' 9/10 in 2-0 win

Newcastle United player ratings vs Manchester United: First-half goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton earn a rare victory at Old Trafford.

Newcastle United claimed only their second-ever Premier League victory at Old Trafford with a 2-0 win over Manchester United.

The Magpies scored both their goals inside the opening 20 minutes when Alexander Isak netted his 13th goal of the campaign. Joelinton then made it 2-0.

The only regret Eddie Howe’s side had at half-time is their advantage wasn’t more following a host of missed chances. Fortunately, that didn’t come back to haunt them and they saw out a fourth successive Premier League victory.

As a result, Newcastle moved up to fifth in the top-flight table. Next up is a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Howe named an unchanged starting XI from the side that beat Aston Villa 3-0 on Boxing Day. Kieran Trippier kept his place at right-back, despite the return of Tino Livramento to the matchday squad.

After scoring in the first and second minute against Ipswich Town and Villa, the Magpies made another rapid start by taking the lead in the fourth minute when Isak headed home Lewis Hall’s cross.

Man United were rattled and Newcastle capitalised further when an Anthony Gordon delivery was attacked by Joelinton, with the vital touch coming off the Brazilian’s shoulder.

Ruben Amorim had seen enough and hooked Joshua Zirkzee on the half-hour mark. The presence of Kobbie Mainoo in midfield slowed Newcastle’s momentum but the scoreline remained the same.
