Newcastle United player ratings: 'Wasteful' & 'way off' 5/10s & 'class' Bruno Guimaraes in Bournemouth draw

Newcastle United player ratings from the 2-2 draw against AFC Bournemouth at St James' Park.

Matt Ritchie's injury time goal rescued a point for Newcastle United against AFC Bournemouth at St James' Park.

The 34-year-old was on the pitch a matter of minutes when he taped home at the back post. It came after the Magpies trailed 2-1 after goals from Dominic Solanke and Antoine Semenyo netted either side of Anthony Gordon's penalty.

Newcastle remain seventh in the Premier League and are currently five games unbeaten, however are without a win on home turf in 2024.

United boss Eddie Howe made one enforced change to the side that beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 last weekend with Harvey Barnes coming in for the injured Callum Wilson. With Alexander Isak also unavailable, Gordon moved across to the central striker position.

Gordon missed a great chance to give the Magpies the lead inside the opening 10 minutes when he headed Kieran Trippier's cross wide. But at the other end, Martin Dubravka pulled off two excellent saves to deny Dominic Solanke.

It was Solanke who broke the deadlock in the 51st minute when he pounced on a slip by Martin Dubravka but the Magpies weren't behind for long. Fabian Schar's shirt was pulled in the box and a lengthy VAR check saw referee Michael Salisbury point to the spot, which Gordon emphatically converted.

The momentum was with the home side but Bournemouth silenced the St James' Park crowd when Semenyo restored his team's advantage. But the home fans had something to shout about come injury time when substitute Ritchie fired home to rescue a point.
